Vedansh's 58 took Traders to maiden title

Post by GGSA Staff

Elga Chemists 124/8 in 20 overs (Kishan 28, Rudra 24, Shivansh 22, Shawez 2/18) lost to Raj Traders 128/5 in 17.1 overs (Vedansh 58*, Shawez 27, Gopal 10, Harsh 2/15) by 5 wickets.

The stage for a grand final was set. Two toppers from group stage were against each other in the battle of title after winning intense semifinals. Some notable guests like Shashikant Khandekar (Ex. UP Ranji Cricketer), Rahul Sapru (Ex. UP Ranji cricketer) were present in the grounds for this final game to have an eye on the best of 24 emerging players of the tournament. The pitch which behaved poorly in entire tournament, was rolled in so well before the toss took place.

Elga Chemists won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch which despite being rolled well, was expected to deteriorate later in the day. Shivansh (22) and Sunny (17) put up a partnership of 38 runs but they were too slow as they sucked up 49 balls for 38 runs. Sunny was specially struggling to time the ball as well as find gaps. At a time he was playing on 2 of 13 balls. Yashvardhan got out cheaply and soon after Shivansh followed him as well. Rudra and Kishan put up a partnership of 46 runs to get the chemists back in the game. Kishan played some glorious shots for his 28 of just 13 balls as he smashed two huge sixes. Once Kishan got out, the inning of chemists stalled as captain Hassan failed to connect the balls in the slog overs which meant chemists failed to reach the par score of 135. Jatin was economical as he went for 13 runs in his 4 overs while Shawez took two for 18 in his quota of four overs.

124 might not be a huge one, but on a deteriorating wicket, it was a tough one specially looking at the fact that Chemists had some top quality spinners in Yashvardhan and Mayank. Chasing the target, Traders lost Akash early as he was dismissed for 8 to a ball which kept low. After that, Vedansh and Sawez put on a partnership of 56 runs from just 6.3 overs. When they both were batting together, it looked like they will finish the match with in 15 overs but once Sawez got out, Traders lost 3 more wickets in quick succession but Vedansh held one end. 19 in last four overs but Vedansh was in no mood to wait anymore as he smashed 18 runs of Mayank's fourth over while Rajat finished the game with  a boundary as Raj Traders lifted the first Late Sardar Surinder Singh  Under-15 tournament's inaugural edition trophy.
