Sanchit's heroics not enough for Durga XI

Post by GGSA Staff

ANG ENTER XI 126 in 20.0 overs (Sidhak 21, Abhishek 16, Vidit 11, Sanchit 5/18) defeated Durga XI 88/10 in 17.1 overs (Ankit 18, Avinash 11, Lucky 9, Ritik 3/14) by 38 runs

ANG ENTER XI celebrating their victory
The last 2 teams of the tournament without any game against their name were against each other on the hot afternoon of 4th June. The inning of Anmol stars earlier in the day gave a clue to the staffs of both the teams about the behaviour of pitch. The team batting first won all the games prior to this one and hence both the captains were desperate to win the toss and bat first. But against all odds, the young captain Pratyush Pandey elected to bowl first. ANG captain. Looking at the pitch and the results from the previous matches, ANG captain Abhinav Verma was happy to bat first.

The openers gave a steady start as they added 28 for the first wicket but in next 4 overs they lost a flurry of wickets which dented their progress. They were 28 for none in 3 overs and from their they crumbled to 48 for 4 in in 8 overs. Extras again top scored in the inning like other matches so far. Some quick cameos from lower order ensured that ANG XI posted a decent total on board although they failed to make full use of their 20 overs as they were bundled out for 126 in 18.1 overs.

127 was not a easy target on a crumbling pitch and a really hot and humid afternoon. Durga XI got a poor start as they lost their first 3 wickets for just 15 runs. Avinash (11) and Ankit (18) tried to stabilize the inning but both departed in quick succession. Once the partnership between Ankit and Avinash was broken, the game was all but over for Durga XI. Ram tried to put up some fight in the end but wickets kept flowing on the other end and eventually Durga XI were bundled out for 88 in 17.1 overs.
