Chemists edged out GAIL XI in a low scoring thriller

Post by GGSA Staff

Elga Chemists 81/10 in 20 overs (Kishan 27, Yashvardhan 24, Akash 13, Abhishek 3/18) defeated GAIL Utkarsh XI 72/10 in 17.2 overs (Prince 11, Gaurav 10, Ravi 06, Mayank 2/5) by 9 runs.

The table toppers from group B, Elga Chemists were taking on second ranked GAIL Utkarsh XI from group A in the first semi-final of the first Late Surinder Sardar Memorial T-20 tournament. While Chemists were on a roll in group stage, GAIL XI had to fight a bit to make it to the knockouts.

Winning the toss, chemists batted first. Unlike other games, they did't got the start they would have liked to as Shivansh got out in very first over. Yash (24) and Sunny added 27 for third wicket but once the partnership was broken, the inning stalled. From 28 for one, they went on to 38 for 7. Between 6th to 15th over, Elga chemists were able to manage only 17 runs as Ravi Shasti bowled two consecutive maiden overs. Ksitij was brilliant again for his figures of 2 for 8 which could easily have been 3 had Harshit not dropped Mayank at covers in his second over. Kishan (27) fought hard to give Chemists a total to fight for as they missed the services of their key batsman and leading run scorer of the tournament Shivang verma. Leading Run scorers and wicket Takers

In reply of a modest total, GAIL XI lost wickets on regular intervals. They failed to build any partnerships as only two of the GAIL XI batsmen made it to the double figures. Saurabh, the hattrick hero in the last game, gave Chemists a perfect start in the first over when he dismissed Akash. At a point GAIL XI needed 32 of 9 overs with 6 wickets remaining but they lost regular wickets as Chemists defended lowest total of the tournament. Harsh, Yash, Sunny and Mayank got two wickets each to help Chemists make it to the final.
