Stars lost the battle of prestige

Post by GGSA Staff

Anmol Stars 112/7 in 20 overs (Mayank 51, Yash 14, Vishal 07, Jatin 1/14) lost to Raj Traders 115/5 in 15 overs (Vedansh 41, Shawez 30, Raj 16, Ayush 2/13) by 5 wickets

Anmol Stars, who lost both of their previous games badly and were already out of the tournament, were playing the last game of the group stage against the table toppers, Raj Traders. Although Raj Traders were already in the knockouts with two wins in two games, their net run rate was inferior to GAIL XI so Traders were also looking for a win to make sure that they play against the second ranked team of B group.

The pitch which was a bit damp early in the morning, dried out and even started breaking down a bit. Anmol Stars won the toss and elected to bat first as they expected the ball to turn later in the day under intense heat. Their start was not different to what they have got so far in the tournament as they lost both their openers when the score was 18 but Mayank and Yash were determined to fight for survival specially Mayank played some glorious shots as he smashed longest six of the season. Mayank and Yash put on 57 runs for 4th wicket. While Mayank was doing most of the damage, Yash was playing a supporting role on the other end. Later in the innings, Stars failed to accelerate as Mayank got out and Stars had to settle for a decent total of 112 in 20 overs what could have been a better one.

112 looked like a fighting total on a pitch which started turning square later in Star's inning but Traders showed their batting superiority. Vedansh (41) and Sawez (30) got Traders of to a great start. Shawez was bamboozled by Ayush and later Vedansh too got out but that only delayed Trader's victory for a few overs as Raj (16) took them home easily.
